Hello, I'm Darren King.

Darren King is a mixed media artist based near Wollongong on the NSW South Coast. His colourful​,​ chaotic pieces are held in private collections in Australia​,​ as well as internationally. Trained in Fine Arts​,​ cartooning​,​ illustration​,​ graphic design and screen printing​,​ his work attempts to fuse elements from each of these practices. Recently he has rediscovered collage and now creates a selection of paintings entirely made from recycled paper. Discarded magazines​,​ junk mail​,​ maps​,​ paper bags and old books are all harvested for interesting pieces to create original​,​ vibrant textural​,​ sustainable artworks. His subject matter constantly changes but pop culture silliness​,​ beaches​,​ skulls​,​ and objects are recurring themes​,​ Most pieces are colourful and overloaded with layers​,​ often combining semi transparent elements and using different methods to create fun​,​ busy colourful artwork. Heavily influenced by pop culture​,​ music and nostalgia​,​ his art attempts to bring beauty to the everyday​,​ or even revive long forgotten favourites.
